MERA PEAK EXPEDITION
Khumbu Region, Nepal
Mera Peak is classed as Nepal's highest 'trekking peak' although it involves climbing on a glacier. Mera offers a relatively non- technical mountaineering experience at a moderate to high altitude. This makes it a fantastic introduction to high altitude Himalayan climbing. Mera is located away from the bustle of the Everest trail, in the upper reaches of the lesser visited Hinku Valley. The journey to the mountain incorporates trekking through small Sherpa villages and a remote ancient Rhododendron forest before reaching a high alpine landscape, which is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The views on the mountain extend to Everest, Lhotse and Makalu and are some of the best vistas you can experience in the Himalaya. Mera is a fantastic introduction into expedition climbing life with camps being set and moved almost everyday. The journey takes us through lots of varied mountain landscapes as we progress our way towards the mountain and slowly gain altitude along the way to ensure all team members acclimatise well together before the final summit push.
